Welcome to the Town of La Crosse, a picturesque rural community nestled in the northwest part of Alachua County. Founded in the 1840s, La Crosse has a rich agricultural history.

The Town of La Crosse (ToLC) Wood-Pecker Trail, Walking trail construction is complete.

 The project was funded by the Alachua County Wild Spaces Public Places funds (WSPP) fuel tax.

 Wood-Pecker Trail, walking trail is open for use Sunrise to Sunset. 

Please Clean up after your pets and yourself. There is a trash can at the start of Trail.


Town of  La Crosse Thought The Years:

1830’s Early Settlement.

John Cellon, a French immigrant, arrives and establishes the first homestead. Families from Georgia and South Carolina soon follow, creating a burgeoning farming community originally named “Rome.”

1881 Cotton Era Begins.

La Crosse emerges as a bustling cotton trading hub. Merchants such as John E. Futch and Henry Clay Parker establish stores and warehouses, driving growth and enhancing commerce.

Early 1900 Potato District.

The boll weevil devastates cotton crops, prompting farmers to pivot to Irish potatoes, which earns La Crosse the nickname “Potato District.” Crops such as corn, vegetables, and to

Residents gather at the Town Hall or the Fire Station while also enjoying the ToLC Recreational Park, which features tennis &basketball courts, playgrounds, and picnic areas. The rural landscape continues to reflect its agricultural roots.
